In this glossary you will find the types and uses of metals.
Metal decking
Noun
Metal decking is corrugated metal sheeting that's used as a structural roof deck or composite floor deck.
Example: The roof of the ranch is made of metal decking.
es: Cubierta de metal.
Metal framing
Noun
Metal structures, consisting of horizontal steel beams and vertical columns, welded together in a rectangular grid to support floors, walls and roofs of buildings. Steel frame structures are used to form the 'skeletal frame' which a building is then constructed around.
Example: The structure of the new building is metal framing.
es: Estructura metálica
Metal panel
Noun
Metal panel is a general term describing any flat, thin sheet of metal. It can be used for interior walls, exterior walls, and roofs of buildings.
Example: The facade of the building is made of gray metal panels.
es: Panel metálico
Metal roofing
Noun
A metal roof is simply a roofing system made using metal pieces, tiles, or panels.
Example: My new house will have a metal roof.
es: Techo de metal
Steel beam
Noun
A steel beam is a structural steel product that is made to support heavy loads.
Example: The roof of my backyard is made of steel beams.
es: Viga de acero
Steel column
Noun
A steel column is a vertical structure member used in construction to provide essential support. They may carry loads in compression or they may transfer loads from things like beams, ceilings, floor slabs or roof slabs to floors or foundations.
Example: Metal columns are common in industrial buildings.
es: Columna de acero.
Steel joist
Noun
Steel joists are open web lightweight steel trusses consisting of parallel chords and a triangulated web system, proportioned to span between bearing points.
Example: The roof of my warehouse is supported with steel joists.
es: Vigueta de acero.
Steel plate
Noun
Steel Plate, or structural steel, is essentially a stainless steel sheet board that can be sliced and welded to make a more complicated product. It is created by compressing several layers of steel together into one; making a steel plate.
Example: The construction of the bridge is made of steel plates.
es: Placa de acero
Steel reinforcement
Noun
Steel reinforcement are steel bars that are provided in combination with plain cement concrete to make it reinforced concrete.
Example: Concrete needs steel reinforcing for better strength
es: Refuerzo de acero
Steel sections
Noun
Steel section describes the profile or shape of a structural steel member. Engineers use the section properties for their calculations.
Example: One steel beam "H" is missing to complete that steel section.
